Shamsul Ahmad marks more than three years of dedicated service at Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), where he has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, marking another significant milestone in a distinguished leadership career within Malaysia’s largest electricity utility. His appointment reflects decades of operational excellence, strategic leadership, and deep expertise across the nation’s power generation and energy sectors.
Since joining Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Shamsul has played an instrumental role in strengthening the organisation’s strategic direction. Before assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer, he served as Chief Regulatory & Stakeholders Management Officer, where he led the company’s regulatory strategy, advised on Malaysia’s electricity industry framework, and represented the nation as Malaysia’s Country Coordinator within the Heads of ASEAN Power Utilities/Authorities (HAPUA). His leadership helped strengthen collaboration between industry stakeholders while supporting the sustainable development of the regional energy sector.
Earlier, Shamsul served as Managing Director of TNB Fuel Services Sdn. Bhd., overseeing the company’s fuel procurement and strategic operations that are essential to ensuring reliable power generation across the nation.
Before these appointments, he spent over a decade with TNB Janamanjung Sdn. Bhd., progressing through key executive positions including Chief Operating Officer/General Manager before being promoted to Managing Director. During his tenure, he successfully led one of Malaysia’s largest coal-fired power generation facilities, driving operational efficiency, plant reliability, safety standards, and long-term business performance.
Before returning to the Tenaga Nasional Berhad Group, Shamsul also served as General Manager (Generating Facility 3) at Kapar Energy Ventures Sdn. Bhd., where he further strengthened his expertise in power plant operations, engineering management, and electricity generation.
