From the Lab to Leadership: The Journey of Dr. Noor Fazila Mohd Yahaya

Malaysia’s pharmaceutical industry needs leaders who understand both the science behind a medicine and the strategy that brings it to patients. Dr. Noor Fazila Mohd Yahaya, known to colleagues as Dr. Faz, is one of those leaders.

Since June 2026, she has served as Head of the Alimentary, Musculoskeletal & Pharmalead High Value Project (HVP) Team at Pharmaniaga Berhad. In this role, she guides therapeutic portfolio development, shapes product strategy, and builds meaningful engagement with healthcare professionals.

Her rise reflects steady growth. After joining Pharmaniaga in 2023, she took on leadership roles across the diabetes, antiviral, gastroenterology and alimentary health portfolios. Each step broadened her understanding of patient needs and market realities, preparing her for her current position.

With more than 15 years of experience across pharmaceutical management, research and healthcare innovation, Dr. Faz brings a rare balance of scientific depth and commercial insight. One highlight of her work has been promoting the New Chemical Entity Tegoprazan (K-CAB) through educational initiatives that help healthcare professionals stay informed about new treatment options.

She is also an active voice in professional circles. She spoke at Pexlift, an engagement recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records, and her expertise has been featured in Utusan Malaysia. These platforms reflect her commitment to sharing knowledge beyond the boardroom.

Dr. Faz’s academic foundation is equally strong. She holds a PhD in Medical Biotechnology from the University of Malaya, where her research explored how Pleurotus pulmonarius may help lower total cholesterol in hypercholesterolaemia-induced Wistar Kyoto rats. She also earned an MSc in Plant Pathology from Universiti Sains Malaysia. This research background gives her a scientist’s eye for evidence, which she carries into every strategic decision.

Perhaps most inspiring is her dedication to the next generation. Through FutureLab’s university mentoring programme, she has guided students from Swinburne University of Technology Australia, Monash University and Sunway University. She has also been a guest speaker for Monash University’s Pharmacy Department, offering aspiring pharmacists a real-world view of the industry they are preparing to enter.

Dr. Faz’s journey shows that leadership in healthcare is not only about products and portfolios. It is about connecting research to real needs, empowering professionals with knowledge, and opening doors for those who will lead tomorrow. Her story is a reminder that when science, strategy, and mentorship come together, healthcare innovation truly moves forward.
