Shahrul Nizar was appointed Chief Operating Officer at KPYPJ, advancing strategic leadership.

Shahrul Nizar continues an impressive leadership journey as he takes on the role of Chief Operating Officer at Kumpulan Pendidikan Yayasan Pelajaran Johor (KPYPJ). This appointment reflects his extensive experience in business transformation, destination management, hospitality operations, education management, and strategic leadership across both public and private sectors.

Before joining KPYPJ as Chief Operating Officer, Shahrul served as Chief Leisure Officer at Only World Group Holdings Berhad, where he was entrusted with transforming the group’s leisure and hospitality portfolio while driving operational excellence and the development of new tourism and leisure-related ventures. His leadership covered a diverse range of attractions, entertainment destinations, hospitality assets, and commercial operations.

Earlier, he was appointed as Director at Rixos Qetaifan Island North Doha – Meryal Waterpark, contributing to one of Qatar’s landmark tourism and leisure developments. His international exposure further strengthened his expertise in large-scale destination planning, operational management, and strategic development within the global tourism industry.

Shahrul also held the position of General Manager – Destination Operations at Desaru Coast Malaysia, where he oversaw the operational management of one of Malaysia’s premier integrated resort destinations. During his tenure, he managed a broad portfolio that included luxury resorts, golf facilities, conference centres, ferry terminal operations, waterpark attractions, and internationally recognised tourism events. Simultaneously, he served as General Manager / Senior Vice President of Adventure Waterpark Desaru Coast, leading one of the region’s flagship leisure destinations and driving business growth, operational efficiency, and guest experience excellence.

In his new role at KPYPJ, Shahrul will oversee the strategic management and operational direction of the organisation’s education ecosystem, supporting the development of higher education and vocational learning institutions under Yayasan Pelajaran Johor. His diverse leadership experience across education, tourism, hospitality, and large-scale operations positions him well to drive innovation, institutional growth, and long-term impact.

With a distinguished career spanning destination management, leisure operations, hospitality, business transformation, and executive leadership, Shahrul’s appointment marks another significant milestone in his professional journey as he continues contributing to organisational excellence and sustainable growth.
